NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING FALLS TO NPL LATE (2023-12-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportLIBERTY — Wyalusing came up on the short end of a 51-44 loss to NP-Liberty during NTL boys’ basketball action Monday.
The Rams found themselves down 27-20 at the half, but rallied din the third to take a 35-33 lead. However, in the fourth NPL out scored them 18-9 to get the win.
Nick Vanderpool Jr. led Wyalusing with 15 points, while Trehnon Hugo netted 12. Zabiah Walton notched eight, Will McBride finished with seven as Parker Petlock rounded things out with two.
Louis Mercantino led the Mounties with 13 points.
NPL jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead, hitting seven field goals in the first frame. Vanderpool led the Rams with five points in the quarter.
The two squads were even in the second at 11 points apiece. Vanderpool led four Wyalusing scorers with four points to keep it a seven point deficit at the half.
Hugo sparked the third, scoring seven of the team’s 15 points, while Walton added four more, while at the other end they held NPL to just two field goals as they took a 2-point lead in the fourth.
In the final frame Wyalusing had just nine points - all on 3-pointers - while NPL shot 14 of their 16 free throws in the frame, making nine of them to help them pull out the win.
Wyalusing (1-3) will host CV on Wednesday.
