NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TROY BLITZES SAYRE FOR BIG WIN (2023-12-13)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTROY — It was a strong home opener for Troy as they rolled past Sayre, 74-32, during NTL boys’ basketball action Wednesday.
Troy jumped out to a 28-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. They forced 37 Sayre turnovers, garnering 25 steals as a team, en route to the win.
“For a year now we’ve been working on our defense,” said Troy coach Bob Woodward. “There’s a lot of squeaky parts of it but our kids are giving lots of effort.”
Colin Loveland had 19 points to lead nine Trojans who scored, adding five steals, while Evan Woodward had 15 points, eight assists, and five steals.
Lincoln Chimics notched 15 points, five steals, and three assists, as Jackson Taylor finished with six points, four boards, five assists, and two steals.
Trey Teribury netted five points, while Joseph Frey and Jack Burbage had four points each. Frye also had four steals while Burbage grabbed two.
Lance Heasley and Sam Roy rounded things out with two points each. Heasley also had three assists.
Troy had 30 field goals in the game, 27 of them 2-point field goals, as Loveland had the hot hand early, scoring eight first quarter points on four buckets. Taylor and Chimics had six points each.
Chimics led Troy’s second quarter effort with seven points, while Woodward had six, as they took a 48-11 lead at the half.
Loveland came out of the third quarter strong, netting eight points on four baskets, as the Trojans put the game into the mercy rule.
This was Troy’s highest scoring game of the year, so far, and focused on putting a consistent effort out on the court
“We need to be consistent,” said Woodward. “That’s with everything from our energy to what we’re doing in the classroom to off the court. No matter what the circumstances are that we can’t control, we’ve just got to keep getting better. This is a long road, and we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Troy (4-0) will travel to Wyalusing (1-4) on Friday.
