Northern Tier Sports Report
LIBERTY — Wyalusing suffered a tough 55-43 loss to NP-Liberty in NTL girls’ basketball action Thursday.

It was a foul plagued game as the Mountaineers shot 34 free throws while the Rams had 37 trips to the charity stripe. Wyalusing made 20 of their free throws while NPL hit 17.

Catherine Brown led the Rams with 13 points, 11 of them coming from the free throw line, while Madison Putnam added 10.

Hailey Jayne and Callie Bennett had eight points each as Olivia Leichliter netted three.

It was close from the start as the two teams were tied at 10-all in the first quarter, which saw four different Rams score.

Wyalusing took a 19-18 lead at the half as Brown and Putnam both had four points apiece.

The offense opened up in the second half as the Mounties netted 20 third quarter points, led by eight from Jadyn Nelson, who hit two 3-pointers. Five different Rams scored in the third stanza but they only had two field goals as they found themselves down 38-31 going into the fourth.

In the final frame NPL shot 15 free throws, making just seven of them, but they had 10 points from five field goals to keep Wyalusing at bay.

Putnam had two buckets to lead Rams in the fourth but they couldn’t mount the charge needed to overtake NPL.

Nelson finished with 15 points to lead the Mounties as Eva Rice notched 14 and Kiersten Mitstifer added 11.
