NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: ROUGH THIRD QUARTER HURTS WYALUSING IN LOSS TO ATHENS (2023-12-20)
Northern Tier Sports ReportATHENS — In a back and forth contest Wyalusing fell to Athens, 57-44, during NTL Large School boys’ basketball action Wednesday.
Athens led 13-7 after the first quarter, but the Rams out scored them 15-9 in the second to knot things up at 22-all at the half.
A 19-6 third quarter in favor of Athens put them up by 13 points going into the fourth, and the two teams played even to the buzzer.
Trehnon Hugo had 19 points to lead Wyalusing with Nick Vanderpool Jr. netting 13 points. Zabiah Walton finished with four, Parker Petlock and Hunter House had three points apiece, while Will McBride notched two.
Conner Mosher led Athens with 28 points.
Mosher and Nick Grazul had four points each for the Wildcats to lead them in the first quarter, while Vanderpool scored five for the Rams.
Hugo went off in the second, netting eight points, including two 3-balls, as Wyalusing rallied to tie.
The Rams were held to just six points in the third - four of which came from Hugo - with Mosher going off for 10.
Hugo had five points in the fourth, while he and Hunter both had 3-pointers, but Mosher continued to roll in the final frame, scoring eight in the fourth to lead the Wildcats home.
Wyalusing (1-7) will be at the Hughesville Tournament next week.
