NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA PULLS AWAY FROM CV (2023-01-05)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — A big second half helped Towanda pull away from CV, beating the Indians 52-40 during NTL girls’ basketball action Friday.
CV actually led 19-18 at the half, but the Knights out scored 34-21 over the final two quarters to get the win.
Brynn Woodruff had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Towanda, adding four blocks and two steals.
Payton Perry had a career high 18 points to go with five boards, with Melody Hakes scoring six points, getting four steals, and handing out six assists.
Karis Flynn netted four points, while Mya Maynard also had four points, plus three steals. Shaylynn Morris notched a point as Kennedy Heyer had four assists and three steals.
Ella Churchall led CV with 15 points.
Towanda held a 10-7 lead after the opening quarter thanks to a 3-ball from Perry, and three more points from Hakes.
CV out scored them 12-8 in the second quarter, getting four points from Ashley Woodring and Matty Millard, to take the 1-point halftime lead.
Woodruff and Perry combined for 15 of Towanda’s 17 third quarter points as they jumped out to a 35-29 lead.
In the fourth Woodruff netted nine points as Perry hit two 3-balls, allowing the Knights to pull away.
Towanda (5-4) will host Athens (3-6) next Tuesday.
