NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: NEB PULLS AWAY FROM CANTON (2024-01-26)
Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — Northeast Bradford stayed undefeated in NTL Division-I girls’ basketball action Friday, pulling away from a pesky Canton squad, 59-32.
NEB led 25-17 at the half, with the Warriors getting as close as 25-23 in the third, but the Panthers ultimately outscored them 34-15 in the second half.
Three different players had 15 points to lead NEB - Emma Neuber, Lillie Maynard, and Becca VandeMark. Maynard also had six boards and two steals, Neuber finished with five rebounds, and three steals, and VandeMark notched five boards and four assists.
Leah Beebe added eight points, five boards, three assists, and three steals, with Lani Thomas getting five points to go with seven boards. Kara Dughi chipped in with one point.
Kendall Kitchen had 16 points and six boards to lead Canton as Cailyn VanNoy notched 13 points and four assists.
Daveian Crowley had three points to go with six rebounds, while Alexis McRoberts had six boards and three steals.
NEB jumped out early, taking a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter as VandeMark led the way with four points.
Canton hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter to rally, as Kitchen and VanNoy had six points each. Neuber led NEB with seven points to help them keep their lead.
In the third VandeMark went off for eight points as Maynard scored four allowing NEB to take a 40-27 lead into the fourth. Kitchen had seven points for the Warriors in the quarter.
In the fourth Canton had just two field goals as the Panthers pulled away, going 8-for-9 from free throw line. Neuber had six points with Maynard scoring five.
Canton (6-11) will look to break their 5-game losing streak at NP-Liberty next Tuesday, while NEB (10-4) wins their sixth straight, and third game this week, as they host Muncy on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.
NEB leads the District IV, Class AA standings with Muncy right behind in third.
