NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON ROUTS MILLVILLE FOR FIRST WIN (2024-03-25)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Canton softball used an 11-run second inning to mercy rule an undermanned Millville squad, 15-0, during non-league softball action Monday.

It was first year head coach, Darryl Jannone’s, first career win, and a big confidence booster for the Warriors after their set back at Sayre on Friday.

“It was a good team win, a total team win - it’s amazing what a difference 30 degrees makes,” said Jannone. “They played much better, played as a total unit, played as a team. Millville traveled a long way, was well coached. They were playing one player down so they made a good effort out of the event, but, overall, I’m real happy with the girls.”

Tara Gilbert got the start and allowed just one hit and no walks with four strikeouts to get the win.

They had 10 hits as a team, with Rylin Graham (2-for-2) getting a double, two runs scored, and 4-RBI, while Addi Pepper (2-for-3) had a triple with a run scored, and an RBI.

Nevaeh Vroman (2-for-2) scored twice and drove in a run as Adriane Katona (2-for-2) also had 2-RBI.

Gilbert (1-for-1) had a double, two walks, two runs scored, and 2-RBI with Alyssa May (1-for-3) getting 2-RBI with a run scored.

Jaylee Ward and Tiffany Acla each crossed home twice, with Chelsea Lehman also scoring.

“The heads were in the game, nobody was focused on the temperature,” Jannone said. “They were focused on batting, supporting each other as a team, so this game came together as a total team effort.”

Canton scored four runs in the bottom of the first as Graham got things going with a 2-run double, scoring Gilbert and Ward.

Pepper’s triple then drove in Graham, followed by Pepper scoring on a May fly-out for the 4-0 lead.

In the second back to back singles by Vroman and Katona allowed Vroman to score. After an out Acla and Gilbert drew back to back walks to load the bases, allowing Graham to single two runs in for a 7-0 lead.

The Quakers would get a second out but a May hit drove in Gilbert, followed by Lehman drawing a walk to load the bases.

After Graham scored on a passed ball Vroman would single in May for a 10-0 lead.

Vroman and Lehman would both steal home to make it 12-0 Warriors with Ward getting hit by a pitch to keep the inning going.

Riley Gowin would score on an error off the bat of Acla, then a Gilbert double drove in Ward and Acla for the 15-0 lead.

Canton (1-1) will travel to CV on Tuesday.
