NTL BASEBALL: GARDNER'S GAME WINNER LEADS CANTON PAST CV (2024-03-26)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Cohen Landis scored on a Bailey Gardner single, and Canton defeated CV, 5-4, in nine innings during NTL baseball action Tuesday.

It was a back and forth affair with CV taking a 3-2 lead after the fourth. They went up 4-2 in the sixth, but in the bottom half of the inning the Warriors tied it up, and it stayed like that until the ninth.

Zach Colton (2-for-4) scored and drove in a run for Canton as Mason Harold (2-for-4) also had a multi-hit day.

Gardner (1-for-4) scored a run to go along with the game winning RBI as Michael Beers (1-for-4) and Ben Fitch (1-for-4) each drove in a run.

Hudson Ward (1-for-5) had a hit as Holden Ward scored twice off four walks.

It was pitching by committee for Canton with Hudson Ward going the first three innings, striking out four with two walks, three hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.

Colton went the next three innings with three strikeouts, one walk, and two hits with an unearned run.

Holden Ward got the win, going three innings to strikeout three with one walk. Hudson threw 59 pitches, Colton 37, and Holden 35.

Canton took a 1-0 lead in the first as Colton singled in Holden. CV tied it up in the third, with the Warriors retaking the lead in the bottom half of the inning as Colton drove in Holden on an error.

The Indians scored two in the next inning to take a 3-2 lead, then added one in the sixth for the 2-run lead.

In the bottom half Gardner led off with a walk, followed by a Colton single. Fitch then drove Gardner in on a ground out to make it a 1-run game.

Colton later scored on a Beers single to knot things up.

It stayed that way until the ninth when Harold led off with a hit. After two outs Holden was intentional walked, followed by Hudson singling to load the bases.

That set up Gardner’s first pitch single to win the game.

Canton (2-0) will host NEB (2-0) on Thursday.
