NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA STARTS HOT IN WIN OVER NP-MANSFIELD (2024-03-28)

MANSFIELD — Towanda jumped out early and pulled away late as they beat NP-Mansfield, 11-5, during NTL baseball action Thursday.

The Knights scored three runs in the top of the first, and led 5-2 after two. Both teams scored a run in the fourth with Towanda getting another in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead.


They pulled away for good with a four run top seven, with the Tigers getting two back in the bottom half of the inning for the 11-5 final.


Jack Wheaton (3-for-5) scored twice for Towanda as Teagan Irish (2-for-3) also crossed home twice.


Rylee Sluyter (2-for-4) had a run and an RBI as Gianni Assante Di Cupillo (1-for-3) scored twice and drove in a run.


Dawson Butts (1-for-4) scored and drove in a run, while Jack Tavani (1-for-5) also had an rBI.


Owen Lane would score twice as Cameron Fields also found home.


The Knights had just one error on the day compared to the Tigers’ six.


Butts got the win, going six innings to strikeout two with eight hits, one walk, and five runs, four of them earned. Wheaton pitched the final inning, striking out one with one hit.


Alex Davis (3-for-4) had a double with 2-RBI to lead NPM while Karson Dominick took the loss, going 1 2/3-innings with four strikeouts, one walk, six hits, and five runs, two of which were earned.


Davis went the next 4 1/3-innings with four strikeouts, one hit, two runs, one of which was earned, and one walk.


Andy Hermanson pitched the final inning with three strikeouts, one walk, three hits, and four unearned runs.


Towanda (1-1) will host Elk Lake on Friday with a noon start.
