THE SPORTS REPORTS: HORSEHEADS' LI, CORNING'S JARDIN-REED, ATHENS' PETTITT EARN TOP HONORS ON ALL-REGION BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING TEAM; FOUR BRADFORD COUNTY SWIMMERS MAKE THE LIST (2024-03-30)

The Sports Reports
 With the boys’ swimming and diving season in the books, there were sectional and district champions and state qualifiers on both sides of the border.

In the end, three different schools were represented among the major award-winners for The Sports Reports Boys Swimming All-Region teams.

The “Swimmer of the Year” is Horseheads’ Shoonfon Li, who swam in four events at States, two of them individual events. Li won the B final in the 200-yard IM at States in 1:53.91 to take 11th overall in the state. He also took 14th in the state in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.60 seconds.

Overall this year, Li qualified for States in seven different events — five of them individual events.

The “Diver of the Year” this season is Corning’s Brenden Jardin-Reed.

A state qualifier for a second straight season, Jardin-Reed was the Section IV, Class A Champion this year. At the Watkins Glen Invitational, he not only won the title this season, he also set the pool record.

Athens freshman Brayden Pettit had a big first year for the Wildcats and he is this year’s “Newcomer of the Year.”

Pettitt qualified for States in two events this season. He took third in the 100-yard backstroke and fourth in the 200-yard IM at the District 4 Championships, earning an at-large bid to states in both events.

ALL-REGION BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING FIRST TEAM
Shoonfon Li, Horseheads:

Brenden Jardin-Reed, Corning:

Brayden Pettitt, Athens:
See Above.

Ethan Hicks, Athens: Hicks placed second in the 50 and 100 free at the District 4 Championships. He swam on the record-breaking 400 free relay that won a D4 title and qualified at State. He was also on the second-place 200-yard free relay.

Kaden TenEyck, Horseheads:
A state qualifier in both the 50 free and 100 free this year, TenEyck also made States in a relay for the Blue Raiders. He had the ninth -best time in the 100 fly in 56.60 seconds, and the fourth-best time in the section in the 100 free in 48.28 seconds.

Magavin Allen, Owego:
Allen placed second in Class B in the 100-yard backstroke (59.23) and had the fourth-fastest time in the area in the 200 IM (2:09.75), placing third in Class B. He also swam on fourth- and fifth-place relays at Class B meet.

Joey Crisco, Corning: Crisco had the fourth-best time in Section IV, Class A in the 200 IM this year in 2:05.96. He also had the ninth-fastest time in the section in the 200 free. He finished third in the section in the 500 free in Class A.

Creed Hackett, Elmira: A state qualifier in diving and Section 4, Class AA runner-up for the Express, Hackett placed sixth in the 50 free at Sectionals.

Thai Tran, Horseheads: A state qualifier for Horseheads in relays, Trans was a runner-up in Class A sectionals in the 100 breaststroke and a fourth-place finisher in the 100 fly.

James Fedele, Horseheads: Fedele was a sectional runner-up in the 100 back and a fourth-place finisher in the 200 IM. He also swam on a state-qualifying relay for the Blue Raiders.

SECOND TEAM
Liam Wright, Waverly:
Wright won four medals at the Section IV, Class B Championships. He finished seventh in the 100 free, eighth in the 50 free, and also swam on a pair of medal-winning relays.

Ronel Ankam, Athens: Ankam swam on the District 4 gold medal 400 free relay team and also on the second-place 200 medley relay. He also placed sixth in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 free at Districts.

Eli Hicks, Athens:
Hicks, a freshman, swam on the District 4 400 free gold-medal relay and also on the second-place 200 medley relay. He finished eighth in the 100 free and ninth in the 50 free.

Ryan Gorman, Athens: Gorman swam on the second-place 200 medley relay. He placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 100 free at the District 4 Championships..

Jaxson Calice, Owego: Calice placed seventh in Class B in the 50 free, with the fifth-best time in the area.

Marvin Reimsnyder, Corning: Reimsnyder had the sixth-best time in Section IV in the 50 free, and the sixth-best time in the 100 fly. He finished second in the 100 fly, and third in the 50 free at the Section IV, Class A meet.

* Shawn DePedro, Corning: DePedro placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard IM at the Section IV, Class A meet.

Kegan Monahan, Horseheads:
Monahan was a fourth-place finisher in the 500 free, and a fifth-place finisher in the 200 free at the Section IV, Class A meet.

Eric Schrader, Owego: Schrader swam on the 200- yard medley relay that placed fourth, and the 200-yard freestyle relay that place fifth at the Section IV, Class B meet.
