NTL BASEBALL: NEB USES BIG FOURTH INNING TO TOP FOREST CITY (2024-03-30)

FOREST CITY — NEB baseball ended the week strong, pulling away from Forest City, 15-4 in five innings, during non-league action Saturday.

The Panthers led 4-1 after three when they rattled off an 11-run fourth to get the mercy rule win.


Kohen Hugo (1-for-2) had a double with 3-RBI, and a run scored, as Clay Wiggins (1-for-2) scored with 2-RBI.


Eli Stanton (1-for-2) scored twice and drove in a run while Andrew Beers (1-for-3) also crossed home twice. Tanner Judson (1-for-1) drove in two runs with a run scored, as Connor Johnson (1-for-1) scored.


Jaedon Puza (1-for-1) also had a hit ad Gavin Puza scored a run and drove in two others. Josh Stanton walked and scored three times, with Dillon Donnelly crossing home twice. Cayden McPherson had an RBI with Ethan Hunsinger also scoring.


Hunsinger got the win, going four innings to strike out five with four walks, three hits, and one earned run. Gavin Puza pitched the final inning, with two strikeouts, two walks, three runs, one of which was earned, and a hit.


The Panthers got three runs in the first, two on a Hugo double. They added another in the third as McPherson brought in Josh Stanton on a ground out.


In the big fourth inning NEB used four walks, six hits, and two errors to get the 11 runs. Big hits were a 2-run single from Wiggins to make it 7-1 with Judson later having a 2-run hit for a 14-1 lead.


Forest City rallied with three runs in the fifth but Puza got back to back strikeouts to end the threat.


NEB (3-1) will travel to Sayre Tuesday.
