NTL BASEBALL: BEERS HOMERS BUT CANTON FALLS TO MUNCY IN WALK-OFF (2024-04-13)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MUNCY — Canton baseball lost a 12-11 walk-off in non-league action at Muncy on Saturday.

The Warriors were down 10-1 after five innings but exploded for eight runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-9.

They would take an 11-10 lead in the top of the seventh only for Muncy to score two runs in the bottom half to get the win.

Michael Beers (2-for-4) had a home run, 3-RBI, and a run scored with Mason Harold (3-for-3) scoring a run.

Hudson Ward (2-for-4) had a double with two runs scored, and an RBI, as Cohen Landis (1-for-2) scored twice and drove in a run.

Ben Fitch (1-for-3) scored and drove in a run with Holden Ward driving in two runs while scoring twice, himself.

Bailey Gardner (1-for-5) had an RBI, Rylan Wesneski (1-for-1) scored a run, with Jason Mahosky (1-for-3) getting a hit, and Zach Colton crossing home.

Five different Warriors saw the mound, with Hudson Ward starting, going one inning with three walks, two strikeouts, one hit, and two earned runs.

Gardner pitched 1 2/3-innings with four strikeouts, two hits, two walks, and four earned runs.

Landis threw for two innings, with three strikeouts, four hits, three walks, and four earned runs.

Wesneski pitched a third of an inning with a walk, with Harold pitching the final 1 1/3-innings for the loss, with one strikeout, one walk, three this, and two earned runs.

Canton jumped out 1-0 in the top of the first as Gardner singled in Holden Ward.

The Indians would slowly pull away, beginning with two runs in the bottom half of the first. They added four in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth.

Then came Canton’s big 8-run inning as they loaded the bases with three straight singles form Beers, Harold, and Wesneski.

Tommy Preston, running for Beers, would score on a passed ball, followed by Harold getting home on an error off the bat of Landis.

A Holden Ward sacrifice fly would drive in both Wesneski and Landis to cut it to 10-5.

Muncy would get two outs after a Hudson Ward walk, but another walk by Colton set up an RBI Fitch single that drove in Hudson.

Then came Beers’ 3-run home run on a 2-0 pitch to make it a 1-run game.

In the seventh Landis led off with a hit, then scored two batters later on Hudson Ward’s double.

Muncy would get a second out but Hudson Ward would give them the lead by scoring on a passed ball.

In the bottom half Canton got the first out but a walk, followed by a single put the winning run on base.

Another single tied the game, then a third straight hit won it for the Indians.

Canton (6-2) will travel to Millville on Monday.
