NTL SOFTBALL: TROY USES BIG THIRD INNING TO DOWN CANTON (2024-04-17)

EAST TROY — Troy used a 10-run third inning to propel themselves to a 15-2 win over Canton in five innings during NTL softball action Tuesday.

The Trojans pounded out 11 hits, but led just 2-0 going into the bottom of the third. That’s when they rattled off 10 runs to take a 12-0 lead.


Canton got back to back home runs in the top of the fourth to get on the scoreboard, with Troy scoring three more in the bottom half.


Lauren Ridall (2-for-2) had two doubles with three runs scored and 4-RBI, while Sydnee Bellows (2-for-3) also scored and drove in a run.


Olivia Champluvier (1-for-3) had a home run with two runs scored, and 4-RBI, while Caitlyn Knapp (1-for-2) had a double. Marlee Stanton (1-for-3) scored twice as Kali Ayres (1-for-2) had a double with two runs scored. 


Lauren Reed (1-for-2) had a double with two runs scored, as Madi Palmer (1-for-4) and Amber James (1-for-4) also crossed home.


Ridall got the start, and the win, going 3 2/3-innings with two hits, one walk, and one earned run. Champluvier went the final 1 1/3-innings with three hits, one strikeout, and one earned run.


Chelsea Lehman (1-for-2) and Rylin Graham (1-for-2) had the two home runs for Canton as Jaylee Ward (1-for-3), Tara Gilbert (1-for-2), and Adriane Katona (1-for-2) also had hits.


Gilbert took the loss, going four innings with two strikeouts, four walks, nine hits, and 15 runs, just four of which were earned.


In the first Ridall was hit by a pitch, then scored on an error for the 1-0 lead.


Palmer would reach in the second, then scored on an error off the bat of Stanton to make it 2-0.


Ayres led off their big inning with a double, followed by Champluvier getting a walk. After an out Ayres would score on an error off the bat of Knapp for a 3-0 lead.


Bellows then drove in Champluvier to make it 4-0 Trojans. An error off the bat of Stanton would allow Knapp and Bellows to score to make it 6-0 Troy.


After Reed reached on a dropped third strike Ridall would double in her and Stanton for an 8-0 score. James kept it going with a hit, followed by Ridall scoring on a wild pitch.


Ayres would draw a walk, setting up Champluvier’s 3-run home run for the 12-0 lead.


In the top of the fourth Canton got back to back 2-out home runs from Lehman and Graham to cut it to 12-2.


In the bottom half of the inning Stanton led off with a hit, followed by a Reed double. Ridall then drove them in with a double to make it 14-2. Ridall later scored on a Champluvier sacrifice fly for the 15-2 final.


Troy (4-0) will take their undefeated record to NP-Liberty on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start, while Canton (2-7) hosts Sayre on Friday.
