THE SPORTS REPORTS: WAVERLY'S PERRY, EDISON'S MILAZZO NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2024-04-17)

Waverly senior Ethan Perry had a week for the ages at the plate, and even tacked on a win on the mound, while Thomas A. Edison pitcher Gabby MIlazzo was perfect in one game, and nearly unhittable in the other two. They are The Sports ReportsZiff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week,” for the week ending April 13.

WAVERLY’S PERRY NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Perry hit .527 (9 hits in 17 at-bats) in four games, with 11 runs scored, three doubles, five home runs, 13 RBI, and two stolen bases.

Perry started the week with a 4-for-4 effort on Monday, which including two home runs, a double,, four runs scored, and seven RBI in a 16-5 win over Chenango Valley.

On Wednesday, Perry homered, scored two runs and stole a base in an 11-4 win at CV, then followed it up Friday with two home runs, two runs scored, and three RBI in a 14-3 win over CV to complete the sweep. Perry also picked up a win on the mound Friday, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out six and walking one in six innings.

On Saturday, Perry rapped out two doubles, scored three runs, and had two RBI as the Wolverines completed a 4-0 week with a 20-9 win over previously-unbeaten South Williamsport.

Edison’s Thomas Cheplick (baseball), Owego’s Sawyer Prentiss (lacrosse),  North Penn-Mansfield’s Zack Wilcox (track & field, and Canton’s Holden Ward (baseball).

EDISON’S MILAZZO NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Milazzo was 3-0 with 27 strikeouts in 15 innings, and threw a perfect game, a one-hitter, and a two-hitter, allowing just one unearned run.

She started the week with five innings of one-hit ball against Lansing, striking out 10, then struck out 11 in a five-inning 2-hitter against Watkins Glen.

She finished off the week Friday with a perfect game, striking out six in a win over Watkins Glen.

Milazzo was also 4-for-10 at the plate for the week with four RBI and a double.
