NTL BASEBALL: ONE BAD INNING HURTS NEB IN LOSS TO CV (2024-04-19)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WESTFIELD — Northeast Bradford started fast but a rough fifth inning doomed them in their 11-4 loss to Cowanesque Valley during NTL baseball action Friday.

The Panthers led 3-0 after the first but saw CV take a 4-3 lead after the fourth. NEB tied it up with a run in the top of the fifth, but the Indians came back with a 7-run bottom half to pull away.

Kohen Hugo (2-for-4) had 3-RBI and a run scored while Clay Wiggins (2-for-3) scored a run. Josh Stanton crossed home twice, as well.

Wiggins got the start, and went 3 2/3-innings with six strikeouts, three walks, three hits, and four runs, none of which were earned.

Hugo went the next 1 1/3-innings to take the loss, striking out one with six hits, two walks, seven runs, five of which were earned.

Tyler Goodenow pitched an inning allowing one hit.

Stanton got things started in the first with a 1-out walk, followed by Wiggins hitting a single. Hugo then did a job, bringing in Stanton and Wiggins for a 2-0 lead.

Hugo later scored on an error off the bat of Cayden McPherson for a 3-0 advantage.

CV got one back in the bottom of the second, then scored three more in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the fifth Stanton led off with another walk, then scored two batters later on a Hugo hit to knot the game up. The Panthers had two runners on with no outs at that point, but CV got the next three batters out - two by strikeout - to get out of the jam.

In the bottom half of the fifth CV used six hits, including five straight singles, to score their seven runs. From there the Indians retired six of the next eight NEB batters to secure the win.

NEB (5-3) will host Sullivan County on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start.
