NTL TRACK & FIELD: SENS, 4X400 RELAY LEAD BIG DAY FOR TROY AT BALD EAGLE INVITE (2024-04-20)

Northern Tier Sports Report
LOCK HAVEN — Behind two champions Troy boys’ track and field had a historically good day at the Bald Eagle Invitational on Friday.

The Trojans took fourth overall with 68.5 points as Avery Sens won the shot put in 49-feet, 8 1/2-inches, while their 4x400 of Mason Wulff, Evan Geer, Colin Loveland, and Jacob Hinman rallied to claim first in 3:33.21.

“It was a great day of track for Troy,” said coach Matt Geer. “There was a lot of great competition and the guys really responded to the challenge. Kendrick Ross was placing second in the high jump right as Ben Warburton and Colin Loveland were taking third and fourth in the long jump 30 feet away; and that seemed to loosen everybody up. Avery Sens just keeps getting better and won the shot put by throwing his best ever by almost a full foot. I would not be surprised if he breaks 50-feet soon.”

As for the relay, it left them on the edge of their seats.

“The 4x400 was one of the best finishes I’ve seen in a long time,” Geer said. “We were in last place as Evan Geer came off the top corner on the second leg, but he didn’t panic and reeled in three guys before the hand off to Colin. Colin then ran his best split ever and picked off two more. Jake Hinman ran a 50.9 split to out lean Central Columbia at the line. It was a great way to finish off a whole team performance.”

Loveland was second in the triple jump with a personal best of 43-feet, 5 1/4-inches.

Warburton had a personal best 20-feet, 11 1/4-inches to take third in the long jump as Loveland was fourth in 20-feet, 10 1/2-inches.

Ross jumped 6-feet for his silver in the high jump with Cameron Morey taking fourth at 5-feet, 10-inches.

Hinman was third in the 400 in 51.85 and seventh in the 200 at 23.59.

Hart Houseknecht took sixth in the 2000 steeplechase in 7:17.24

Troy also took sixth in the 4x100 (45.06) and the 4x800 (9:20.64) relays.

On the girls’ side Alyssa Parks medaled in three different events, taking third in the high jump at 4-feet, 10-inches, fourth in the 300 hurdles in 49.47, and seventh in the pole vault at 8-feet, 6-inches.

“The girls actually improved quite a bit, too, and I was really excited to see them improve as well,” said Geer. “Alyssa Parks continues to improve and after placing third in the high jump she sprinted over to run her best 300 hurdles of the season. I’m really excited to see how both teams continue to grow.”
