Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Canton softball avenged a loss from earlier in the year as they rolled past Sayre, 19-4 in four innings, during NTL softball action Friday.

“It’s good to get back on the right track,” said Canton coach Darryl Jannone. “Even since the first game of the year we’ve been focusing on fundamentals and it seemed to play off, and hitting became more aggressive. They hit well, they called well, they pitched well - I’m very proud of them.”

Both teams scored a run in the first, but Canton scored six runs in each of the next three innings to pull away.

The team had eight doubles on the day as Nevaeh Vroman (2-for-3) had two doubles with three runs scored and an RBI. Tiffany Acla (3-for-4) had two doubles with a run scored, and 4-RBI as Jaylee Ward (3-for-3) had a double with four runs scored and 2-RBI.

Addi iPepper (2-for-3) had a double with two runs scored and 4-RBI, Chelsea Lehman (1-for-4) had a double with 2-RBI and a run scored, and Rylin Graham (1-for-2) had a double with three runs scored, and 2-rBI.

Tara Gilbert (1-for-3) scored twice and drove in a run as Audrey Bastion scored and had an RBI. Maayke Inman chipped in with two runs scored.

Gilbert got the win, striking out five with six hits, no walks, and four runs, two of which were earned.

Canton got on the scoreboard when Ward led off with a hit and was brought in by Pepper on a single.

In the second Acla led off with a double, then scored on an error off the bat of Vroman. Two more Canton batters reached to load things up, setting up Ward’s 2-run single that scored Vroman and Bastion.

After an out Graham doubled in Inman and Ward for a 6-1 lead. An error off the bat of Lehman allowed Graham to score to make it 7-1.

Sayre got one back in the top of the third but in the bottom half Vroman led off with a double. After an out two straight walks set up pepper’s 3-run double to make it 10-2.

Two walks in the next three batters loaded the bases again with Acla clearing them with a double to make it 13-2.

Sayre would get two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 13-4.

In the bottom half Vroman led off with a double, then scored on a Bastion ground out. After a second out Ward doubled, then she scored on a wild pitch.

After back to back walks Lehman doubled in Pepper and Graham to make it 17-4. Singles by Gilbert and Acla scored two more runs to end the game.

Canton (3-7) will travel to CV on Tuesday.
