NTL BASEBALL: TROY GETS THEIR BATS GOING IN SWEEP OF SHAMOKIN (2024-04-20)

SHAMOKIN — Troy scored 45 runs on Saturday as they swept Shamokin in a non-league baseball double-header.

Troy won the first game 18-5, then pulled away for a 27-3 win during the second game.


FIRST GAME

The Trojans broke open a close game with a 9-run seventh. 


They led 1-0 after the first, and extended that lead to 8-0 midway through the fifth. 


Shamokin got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom half of the inning, and cut it to 9-4 after six.


Troy would bat around in the seventh to pull away.


Five different Trojans had multiple hits on the day, with Clayton Smith (2-for-3) getting a double with 2-RBI and two runs scored as Jackson Taylor (2-for-5) scored three times with an RBI.


Brendan Gilliland (2-for-4) scored twice and drove in a run, as Mason Smith (2-for-4) also scored twice with 5-RBI.


Lincoln Chimics (2-for-4) crossed home three times while Camden Allen (1-for-4) scored once and drove in four runs.


Camryn Harwick (1-for-3) scored twice with an RBI as Reed Palmer scored three times with 2-RBI. Joseph Frye also drove in a run.


Allen got the win, going five innings with five strikeouts, three walks, four hits, and two earned runs. Trey Teribury pitched one-third of an inning with two hits, three runs, and two walks.


Palmer pitched two-thirds with one hit and one run, while Frank Harper pitched the final inning, getting two strikeouts with one hit and one run.


Harwick led off with a walk, and walked around the base paths as Shamokin walked four of the first five batters. Allen brought him in by drawing a walk for the 1-0 lead.


In the third Gilliland and Chimics had back to back singles, with both scoring on an Allen hit. 


Palmer was then hit by a pitch, and scored on a 2-out Clayton Smith double for the 4-0 lead.


In the fourth Mason Smith was hit by a pitch and scored on a Gilliland hit.


In their three run fifth Palmer, Clayton Smith, and Taylor all reached, with Harwick and Mason Smith each getting an RBI.


Chimics would reach on an error in the sixth, then was brought home on a ground out by Palmer.


In the seventh the first nine Troy batters reached safety with Taylor leading things off with a hit. Harwick would draw a walk, setting up Mason Smith’s 2-run single. 


Gilliland, Chimics, and Allen each drew a walk, with Mason Smith scoring on Allen’s base on balls.


Palmer kept the walks coming with one, scoring Gilliland, then Clayton Smith drew a walk, which brought home Chimics.


Frye would get an RBI by drawing a sixth straight walk, as Allen came home.


Taylor would get some wood on the ball, bringing in Palmer on a fielder’s choice.


Harwick followed by drawing his third walk of the game, while Mason Smith brought in Clayton Smith and Taylor with a 2-run single for their final runs.


GAME 2

Troy won the second game in three innings, scoring eight runs in the first to take an 8-2 lead.


They tacked on three more in the second, then had a 16-run third inning as they batted around twice.


Gilliland (5-for-5) scored three times and drove in two runs as Clayton Smith (3-for-3) had ad double with three runs scored and an RBI.


Frye (2-for-2) scored twice and drove in three runs as Harwick (2-for-4) scored three times with an RBI.


Mason Smith (2-for-4) had two doubles, two runs scored, and 4-RBI.


Chimics (2-for-3) had a home run, 4-RBI, with three runs scored, Allen (2-for-4) had a double with 3-RBI, and Palmer (2-for-4) had two doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI.


Taylor (1-for-3) scored twice with an RBI as Pryor Teribury, Kayden Vogel, and Lucas Loxley, and Seth Feldmeier all scored. Micah Pesesky chipped in with an RBI.


Harper got the win, going two innings with two strikeouts, one walk, three hits, and two earned runs.


Gilliland went the final inning, with two walks, one hit, and one run.


In the first Harwick led off with a hit then scored on a Mason Smith double. After Gilliland singled Chmics hit a 3-run dinger to make it 4-0.


After an out Palmer doubled with Clayton Smith getting a single. Frye would bring in Palmer with a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead.


Taylor reached on an error that allowed Clayton Smith to scored, while Taylor would steal home. 


Harwick would reach on an error in his second at bat of the inning then scored on an error off the bat of Mason Smith for the 8-0 lead.


In the second Clayton Smith had a 1-out single, then scored on a Frye hit. Taylor would drive in Frye, then get driven in himself on a Harwick ground out to make it 11-0.


In the big third inning the first six Trojans reached base safely as Gilliland singled. Chimics drew a walk followed by Allen driving them in with a double.


Palmer would reach on an error, then Clayton Smith doubled in Allen. Palmer would score on a Frye hit.


After an out Harwick singled, setting up Mason Smith’s 2-run double. Gilliland came up again and had a run scoring single, followed by Chimics and Allen both getting hit by pitches.


Palmer followed with an RBI hit, then Clayton Smith reached on an error.


Feldmeier would draw an RBI walk followed by Pesesky getting an RBI sacrifice fly.


Vogel was then hit by a pitch, while Teribury followed by reaching on an error. 


Gilliland, Chimics, and Allen each had RBI singles to finish out the inning.


Troy (7-2) travels to Athens on Tuesday.
