NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON FALLS TO DIVISION LEADING CV (2024-04-24)

WESTFIELD — Canton lost 16-5 in five innings to division leading CV during NTL softball action Tuesday.

It was competitive after one with Canton down just 3-2, but an 8-run second by the Indians saw them pull away for good.

Rylin Graham (3-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI while Chelsea Lehman (2-for-3) had two doubles with two runs scored, and 2-RBI.

Jaylee Ward (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored, as Tara Gilbert (1-for-2) scored a run. 

Tiffany Acla (1-for-3) scored while Audrey Bastion had an RBI.

Gilbert took the loss, striking out one with two walks, 12 hits and 16 runs, nine of which were earned.

In the first Canton would get a lead off double from Ward. After two outs Lehman doubled in Ward, then got plated herself from a Graham double to put the Warriors up 2-0.

CV got a 3-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead, then used an 8-run second to go up 11-2.

They extended that lead to 16-2 after three with Canton getting one back in the fourth.

Graham led off with a hit with Bastion driving her in with a fielder’s choice. 

Canton’s final two runs came in the fifth as Gilbert was hit by a pitch with two outs. A Lehman double brought her in, followed by Graham singling in Lehman for the 16-5 final.

Canton (4-8) will travel to NEB on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
