NTL SOFTBALL: TROY USES BIG FOURTH INNING TO DOWN ATHENS (2024-04-24)

ATHENS — A 3-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as Troy rallied to beat Athens, 4-3, during NTL softball action Tuesday.

The Wildcats led 2-0 after two innings but Troy got on the scoreboard in the third, then went up 4-2 in the fourth.


Athens got one back in the sixth, but couldn’t quite get over the hump.


Lauren Ridall (3-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI and a run scored while Olivia Champluvier (1-for-3) had a solo home run.


Marlee Stanton (2-for-3) had a multi-hit game with Amber James (1-for-4) driving in a run. Sydnee Bellows (1-for-3) scored, along with Caitlyn Knapp.


Champluvier got the win in the circle, going the distance to strikeout one with one walk, seven hits, and three runs, one of which was earned.


Down 2-0 entering the third Ridall hit a 1-out single, then scored on a James double make it a 1-run game.


Champluvier led off the fourth inning by hitting a bomb over the left field bench on a 2-2 pitch. 


After an out Knapp and Bellows both reached, while Stanton singled to load the bases.


Athens would get a second out but Ridall came through, hitting a 2-run single to put the Trojans up 4-2.


The Wildcats threatened in the fourth, then got one across in the sixth when Savannah Persun was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.


In the seventh, though, Champluvier retired them in order.


Troy (7-1) will host Wyalusing on Friday with a 4:30 pm. start.
