NTL SOFTBALL: NEB HOLDS OFF CANTON (2024-04-26)

ROME — Despite getting outhit NEB took advantage of Canton miscues in the field to pull out a 9-6 win during NTL softball action Friday.

After a scoreless first NEB pushed one across in the second, then added three more in the third to go up 4-0.


Canton cut it to 4-3 after the top of the fourth, only to see the Panthers rack up three more runs in the bottom half of the inning.


The Warriors scored one in the fifth to make it 7-4, with NEB extending their lead to 9-4 with two in the sixth. Canton notched two more runs in the seventh for the 3-run difference.


Hannah Berger (2-for-3) had a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI to lead NEB with Makenna Callear (2-for-4) scoring a run and driving one in.


Kelsea Moore (1-for-3) scoured twice as Kiarra DeLancey (1-for-3) scored and drove in a run. Isabella Kapr (1-for-2) scored, Orissa Gardner (1-for-4) had an RBI, and Ton iHerb scored and drove in a run.


Moore got the win, striking out nine with one walk, 10 hits, and six runs.


Tara Gilbert (2-for-4) had a double with 2-RBI and a run scored, as Tiffany Acla (2-for-4) drove in two runs.


Jaylee Ward (2-for-3) scored twice, Addi Pepper (2-for-4) had an RBI with Rylin Graham (1-for-4) scoring twice while driving one in.


Chelsea Lehman (1-for-4) scored a run, as well.


Gilbert took the loss, striking out five with eight hits, three walks, nine runs, two of which were earned.


NEB got things started in the second as Gardner singled with Callear bringing her home on a 2-out hit for the 1-0 lead.


In the third Herb, Berger, and Moore all reached on errors, allowing Herb and Berger to score. Moore later scored on a Gardner ground out for the 4-0 lead.


Canton struck back in the fourth as Graham reached on an error, followed by Lehman singling. A Gilbert double scored both, with Acla driving in Gilbert to make it a 1-run game.


In the fourth Kapr reached on a hit by pitch, followed by Callear getting on. DeLancey would drive in Kapr, followed by Callear scoring on a DeLancey ground out to make it 6-3. DeLancey later scored on a wild pitch for a 7-3 score.


Back to back hits from Ward and Pepper allowed Ward to score for a 7-4 contest.


In the sixth Berger took a 1-2 offering and smashed it over the left field fece to make it 8-4. Then, with two outs, an error off the bat of Gardner allowed Moore to score for a 5-run lead.


In the seventh Ward led off with a hit, and scored two batters later on a Graham single. After a second out back to back hits by Gilbert and Acla allowed Graham to score.


Moore, though, finished things off by getting a strikeout.


NEB (6-5) travels to South Williamsport Saturday, while Canton (4-9) will host Troy next Wednesday.
