NTL SOFTBALL: NEB USES TWO BIG INNINGS TO PULL AWAY FROM SAYRE (2024-04-30)

ROME — NEB used a pair of 6-run innings to down Sayre, 15-1 in five innings, during NTL softball action Tuesday.

The Panthers scored six in the first and six in the third, along with two in the second, and one in the fourth. Sayre pushed their run across in the second.


Hannah Berger (2-for-4) had a home run, 2-RBI and four runs scored for NEB as Melanie Shumway (2-for-4) scored and drove in a run.


Makenna Callear (1-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI and two runs scored, as Kiarra DeLancey (1-for-2) scored three times and drove in two runs.


Kelsea Moore (1-for-3) scored and had an RBI as Orissa Gardner (1-for-2), Toni Herb, Alexis Corter, and Isabella Kapr all scored. Herb also had an RBI.


Callear got the win, striking out eight with four hits, one walk, and one earned run.


In the first Callear led off with a walk, followed by Shumway getting a bunt single. Delancey would single in Callear, followed by Berger reaching on a hit to load the bases.


Shumway would score on a passed ball followed by DeLancy scoring on an error off the bat of Moore.


After a walk to Herb an error off the bat of Corter allowed Berger to score, making it 4-0.


Gardner would walk, followed by a strikeout, setting out Callear’s 2-run double for the 6-0 lead after the first.


A home run in the second by Rylee Lantz made it 6-1.


In the bottom half of the inning DeLancey led off with a walk, then scored on an error off the bat of Berger. Berger later scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1.


Gardner would lead off the third with a hit, followed by Kapr drawing a walk. Callear would reach to load the bases as Shumway singled in Gardner to make it 9-1.


A walk to DeLancey brought in Kapr, followed by Berger driving in Callear to make it 11-1.


DeLancey later scored on a passed ball, followed by Herb driving in Berger for a 13-1 lead.


The final run of the inning came when Moore scored on an error off the bat of Gardner.


Berger hit a solo shot in the fourth to make it a 15-1 final.


NEB (7-6) will travel to Montrose on Thursday.
