NTL BASEBALL: IRISH'S STRONG OUTING LEADS TOWANDA PAST CV (2024-05-09)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WESTFIELD — Towanda’s Teagan Irish had another strong complete game on the mound and Towanda pulled out a 5-2 win over CV during NTL baseball action Thursday.

Irish struck out three with seven hits, one walk, and two runs, one of them earned, as the Knights scored two in the third and three in the fourth to go up 5-0.

The Indians didn’t get on the scoreboard until the seventh, when they pushed two across, but Towanda held them to that.

Jack Tavani (2-for-4) scored twice as Cameron Fields (2-for-3) also crossed home. Dawson Butts (2-for-4) had a multi-hit game with Owen Lane (1-for-2) driving in two runs with a run scored.

Irish (1-for-4) had a double with an RBI as Wil Shrawder (1-for-4) also scored. Jack Wheaton (1-for-4) had a hit with Rylee Sluyter getting 2-RBI.

In the third Tavani opened things up by getting hit by a pitch, followed by Lane reaching on a fielder’s choice. After an out Tavani stole home, then Irish doubled in Lane for the 2-0 lead.

It was a hit parade for Towanda in the fourth as Fields, Shrawder, Tavani, and Lane had four straight singles. Lane’s hit brought in Fields and Shrawder for a 4-0 lead.

After an out Tavani took home on a steal, again, to put the Knights up 5-0.

CV led off the sixth with a single and double, pushing both across to make it a 3-run game. Irish, though, retired six of the next seven batters to secure the win.

Towanda (5-12) will host Sayre on Tuesday.
