NTL SOFTBALL: TROY SWEEPS MIDD-WEST IN DOUBLE-HEADER ACTION (2024-05-11)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MIDDLEBURG — Troy softball swept Midd-West softball on Saturday, winning the two games 4-2, and 11-10.

GAME 1

Troy got three solo home runs as they eked out a win in the first game. 


Caitlyn Knapp (1-for-3), Sydnee Bellows (1-for-2), and Marlee Stanton (1-for-3) each had homers with Kali Ayres (1-for-4) scoring a run. Madi Palmer (1-for-4) had an RBI as Olivia Champluvier walked three times.


Lauren Ridall got the win, going five innings with two strikeouts, two runs, two walks, and seven hits.


Champluvier got the save, striking out one in two innings with no walks or hits.


In the top of the second Stanton hit a 2-out home run to put Troy up 1-0. Midd-West pushed two across in the third to go up 2-1.


Then in the fourth Knapp and Bellows had back to back lead-off home runs to put the Trojans up 3-2.


In the seventh they got an insurance run as Ayres had a 2-out single. Two batters later she scored on a Palmer hit for the 4-2 final.


GAME 2

Troy was the home team for the second game and jumped out to a 8-0 lead after the first two innings. Midd-West rallied with 10 runs over the next two innings to go up 10-8 midway through the fourth.


The Trojans got one back in the bottom half of the inning, then went up for good with two runs in the fifth.


Palmer (2-for-3) had a double, 2-RBI, and two runs scored as Champluvier (1-for-3) had a home run with 2-RBI and two runs scored.


Knapp (2-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI while Ayres (2-for-3) scored three times. Lauren Reed (2-for-4) had a home run with Ridall (1-for-2) scoring twice. 


Amber James (1-for-3) scored, as Bellows (1-for-3) and Stanton each had an RBI.


Three different hurlers saw action in the game for Troy, as Champluvier got the start, going 2 2/3-innings with one strikeouts, five hits, five runs, and one walk.


Ridall went the next four to get the win, with no strikeouts, three hits, five runs, and four walks.


Ayres got the final out of the game, striking out the only batter she faced.


In the first Ridall, James, and Ayres all singled to load the bases. An error off the bat of Champluvier brought in Ridall, then a Palmer hit scored James and Ayres for a 3-0 lead.


A Knapp single scored Champluvier, as Bellows and Stanton drove in the next two runs to go up 6-0.


In the second Champluvier hit a 2-urn home run for the 8-0 lead.


For their run in the fourth Palmer hit a 1-out double, then scored on Knapp’s double to make it a 1-run game.


Reed would lead off the fifth with a solo shot, tying the game up. Ridall then walked, scoring on an error off the hit of Ayres to put Troy up for good.


Midd-West got two runners on in the seventh before Ayres came in to shut the door.


Troy (14-2) welcomes CV on Tuesday.
