NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA POUNDS THEIR WAY PAST NOTRE DAME (2024-05-11)

ELMIRA, N.Y. — Towanda scored in every inning as they rolled past Notre Dame, 19-0 in five innings, during non-league softball action Saturday.

After going up 1-0 in the first they used an 8-run second to take control of the game. They scored two runs in the each of the third and fourth innings, then finished things off with a 6-run fifth.


Brooklyn Evans (4-for-4) had two doubles, 4-RBI, and two runs scored, as Paige Perry (3-for-5) had two doubles, three runs, and 3-RBI.


Tae-Lynn Brabant (3-for-5) scored twice and had 3-RBI, as Leila Cobb (2-for-3) had a double with 3-RBI, and three runs scored.


Shay Greenland (2-for-4) scored twice and drove in a run, with Kynlee Kunkle (1-for-3) scoring twice and getting an RBI. Aleah Johnson and Brynsen Vargason both crossed home twice, with Hannah Crawford scoring and driving in a run.


Johnson went the first three innings to get the win, striking out three with one walk and one hit. Cobb pitched the final two innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.


In the first Perry led off with a hit and then was brought in by Greenland with a ground out for the 1-0 lead.


In the second Kunkle reached on an error, followed by Vargason drawing a walk. After an out Cobb rocked a 2-out double, then scored on Perry’s double for the 4-0 lead.


Greenland kept things going with a hit, with Evans driving in Perry for a 5-0 advantage. Johnson would reach on an error, setting up Brabant’s 2-run single. 


Johnson later stole home, with Kunkle driving in Brabant with a ground out for the 9-0 lead.


In the third Towanda went with two outs as Brabant singled in Evans, and Johnson scored on a passed ball to make it 11-0.


In the fourth Cobb hit a 1-out single, then scored on a Perry double. Perry would score on a passed ball to make it 13-0.


In the fifth the first five Towanda batters reached, with Brabant and Kunkle hitting back to back singles. Vargason then reached on an error to load the bases.


Crawford would drive in Brabant with a fielder’s choice, followed by Cobb getting hit by a. Pitch to score Kunkle. 


A Perry sacrifice fly brought in Vargason to make it 16-0.


Greenland singled to reload the bases, setting up Evans’ 3-run double for the 19-0 final.


Towanda (9-8) is one win away from clinching a district spot, and will get the chance on Monday when they host Canton.
