NTL SOFTBALL: NEB USES 14-RUN INNING TO DOWN SAYRE (2024-05-13)

SAYRE — Northeast Bradford softball used a 14-run sixth inning to pull away from a pesky Sayre team, 19-1 in six innings, during NTL softball action Monday.

The game was scoreless through three innings until the Panthers pushed four across in the fourth. They added another in the fifth, then had the big six innings. 


Sayre scored their run in the bottom of the sixth.


Kelsea Moore got the win, striking out nine in five innings of work, with just one hit and four walks. Kristina Larnerd tossed the final inning, striking gout one with one unearned run.


Hannah Berger (2-for-5) had a home run with four runs scored, and an RBI while Orissa Gardner (3-for-5) rocked a double with 3-RBI and a run scored.


Kiarra DeLancey (2-for-5) had a triple with 4-RBI and two runs scored, as Moore (2-for-4) had a double with an RBI.


Makenna Callear (2-for-4) scored twice and drove in two runs, as Melanie Shumway (2-for-4) scored and had an RBI.


Alexis Corter (2-for-3) crossed home three times as Toni Herb (1-for-5) scored twice and had 3-RBI. Jaylin Wheaton (1-for-1) drove in a run with Zaelea Lane crossing home and getting an RBI. Abby Keeney chipped in by scoring twice.


Berger finally broke the seal in the top of the fourth with a solo home run. 


After a second out Herb reached on an error, then scored on a Gardner hit. After back to back walks a Callear hit scored Gardner and Corter for the 4-0 lead.


In the fifth Berger reached on an error then scored on a Moore double to make it 5-0.


The first eight NEB batters reached to start the sixth inning as Corter and Keeney drew back to back walks. 


A Callear infield single loaded the bases for Shumway, who drove in Corter with a hit. Delancey then cleared the bases with a 3-run triple to make it 9-0 NEB.


Berger would reach on a dropped third strike, allowing DeLancey to score. After Moore singled Berger and Ava Lambert - Moore’s courtesy runner - both scored on an error off the bat of Herb.


After an out NEB reloaded the bases with a hit from Corter, and a walk to Keeney. Wheaton would single in Herb, followed by Lane drawing a walk to score Corter. 


A DeLancey single brought Keeney around to score, then Callear scored on a passed ball. After a second out Herb had a run scoring hit, then Gardner drove in two with a single for their 19th run.


NEB (11-7) travels to Wellsboro on Tuesday.
