NTL SOFTBALL: BERGER HOMERS TWICE AS NEB ROLLS PAST WELLSBORO (2024-05-14)

WELLSBORO — NEB’s bats stayed hot as they pounded their way past Wellsboro, 20-3, during NTL softball action Tuesday.

This is the third game in a row that they’ve scored 17 or more runs, with the Panthers scoring in every inning in this one.


Hannah Berger (4-for-5) had two home runs with a double, 6-RBI, and two runs scored while Kiarra DeLancey (1-for-5) reached base on every at bat, had a home run, and scored five times.


Alexis Corter (3-for-4) drove in two runs as Orissa Gardner (2-for-4) scored and had an RBI. Toni Herb (2-for-4) had 2-RBI With a run scored while Kelsea Moore (1-for-4) scored twice and drove in a run.


Melanie Shumway (1-for-3) and Makenna Callear both scored three times, Zaelea Lane scored twice, and Isabella Kapr also crossed home.


Callear got the win, striking out two with no walks, six hits, and three runs scored.


Paige Logsdon was a bright spot for the Hornets, going 2-for-3 with a home run.


NEB scored four in the first as Callear reached on a walk. After an out DeLancey reached on an error, followed by Berger drawing a walk.


Moore then walked to bring in Callear, followed by Herb singling in Delancey. Berger would take home on a wild pitch, then Gardner hit a 1-run single to score Moore for the 4-0 lead.


In the second they notched five runs as Shumway walked, followed by Delancey reaching on an error. Berger drove them in with a 2-run double, followed by Moore hitting a 1-run single.


After a second out Gardner drew a walk, setting up Corter’s 2-run single for the 9-0 lead.


The Panthers scored three in the third as DeLancey and Berger had back to back home runs. With two out sHerb reached on a hit, then scored on a Gardner single.


NEB tacked on three more runs in the fourth with Callear drawing a lead-off walk. Shumway then singled, as Callear later scored on a wild pitch.


DeLancey would reach on an error. Shumway later scored on an error, while Herb drove in DeLancey with a ground out.


NEB finished with a 5-run fifth as Corter opened things up with a single. Kapr would draw a walk to put two runs on, while Callear reached on a fielder’s choice, as Corter was out at third.


Shumway would draw a walk to load the bases, as Kapr and Callear scored on an error off the bat of DeLancey. Berger then rocked a 3-run homer for their 20th run.


NEB (12-7) will host NP-Liberty on Wednesday.
