NTL SOFTBALL: TROY FINDS THE HITS BUT COULDN'T GET THE RUNS IN LOSS TO CV (2024-05-14)

EAST TROY — Troy pounded out 10 hits - including two home runs - but came up short as they fell to CV, 4-3, during NTL softball action Tuesday.

The Trojans left 11 on base, including the bases loaded twice. It was 1-1 after one, then CV took a 3-1 lead after two.


Troy would cut it to 3-2 with a run in the fourth, but CV got it back in the top of the fifth. The Trojans made it a 1-run game in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t find the equalizer.


Lauren Ridall (2-for-4) had a home run, a double, two runs scored, and an RBI as Lauren Reed (1-for-3) had a home run.


Amber James (2-for-4) and Madi Palmer (2-for-4) both had multi-hit games with Marlee Stanton (1-for-4), Caitlyn Knapp (1-for-2), and Kali Ayres (1-for-4) also getting hits.


Lauren Ridall got the start, and took the loss, going 4 1/3-innings with two strikeouts, one walk, five hits, and four runs, three of them earned. 


Ayres went the final 2 2/3-innings with one hit, no strikeouts, no walks, and no runs.


After CV pushed one across in the top of the first Ridall hit a lead-off home run for the Trojans in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Troy would later load the bases but CV got out of it with a fielder’s choice.


Errors allowed CV to score two runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead.


Troy would load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third but couldn’t plate any runners. In the fourth Ridall led off with a double and later scored on an error to cut it to 3-2.


CV used another error to score a run in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.


Reed led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot on an 0-2 pitch to make it 4-3. In the seven Palmer led off with a hit but was stranded on second as the Indians took the win.


Troy (14-3) will travel to Sayre on Wednesday.
