NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON FALLS TO ATHENS (2024-05-14)

ATHENS — Canton fell 12-2 to a hot Athens team in five innings during NTL softball action Tuesday.

The Wildcats led 11-0 after three when Canton pushed a run across in the top of the fourth. They added another run in the top of the fifth, but Athens scored in the bottom half to secure the win.

Nevaeh Vroman (2-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI as Riley Gowin (1-for-2) and Tara Gilbert (1-for-3) both scored. Tiffany Acla (1-for-3) also had a hit.

Gilbert took the loss, striking out one with one walk, 11 hits, and 12 runs, seven of them earned.

In the fourth Gilbert led off with a single, then scored on Vroman’s double. Then in the fifth Vroman hit a 2-out single to score Gowin for Canton’s other run.

Canton (4-15) will end their season on Thursday at Montgomery.
