NTL TRACK & FIELD: TOWANDA'S FARRELL TAKES SECOND AT D4 CHAMPIONSHIPS, PUNCHES TICKET TO STATES (2024-05-17)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Towanda’s Varrius Farrell had the throw of his life, and then another, as he took second in the shot put at the District IV Track and Field Championships Thursday.

His throw of 49-feet, 3-inches earned him a state berth along with a silver medal.

Farrell came in at 44-feet but he hit 45-feet, 8-inches in his first throw. He later hit 48-feet, 8-inches, which would have been enough to get him to states.

However, during the finals he uncorked a 49-feet, 3-inch toss to set a new personal best.

The Towanda girls’ 4x800 relay of Izzy Larson, Anna Dunn, Melody Hakes, and Kylee Barnes took fourth in 9:56.35, missing a state berth by six seconds.

Michael Ferrulli was seventh in the long jump in 20-feet, 4 1/2-inches to get on the podium.

Towanda’s Aiden Blokzyl (18.55) took 19th in the 110 hurdle preliminaries.

The championship meet will conclude on Saturday with a 9 a.m. start time.
