NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA COMES UP SHORT AGAINST WILLIAMSON (2024-05-17)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYSOX — Williamson used two 3-run innings late in the game to pull away from Towanda, 9-4, in NTL softball action Thursday.
Williamson led 2-1 after one, but the Knights tied it up in the bottom of the third.
The Warriors went ahead, 3-2, in the fourth, then tacked on three more runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.
They would lead by as much as 9-2 midway through the seventh. Towanda rallied with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn’t close the deficit.
Brooklyn Evans (1-for-4) had a home run with TaeLynn Brabant (2-for-4) getting a double with 3-RBI. Paige Perry (1-for-4) and Brynsen Vargason (1-for-3) both scored, with Shay Greenland (1-for-3), Aleah Johnson (1-for-3), Kynlee Kunkle (1-for-3), and Caedence Wells (1-for-3) all getting hits.
Johnson got the start, going four innings for the loss. She struck out nine with no walks, six hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.
Brabant tossed the final three innings with four strikeouts, no walks, six hits, and six runs, five of which were earned.
Williamson got a 2-run home run to take a 2-0 lead in the first, but Towanda got one back in the bottom half of the inning. Perry led off with a single, then scored on a Brabant double to make it 2-1.
Evans then tied the game up with a solo shot in the third.
Williamson snuck a run across in the fourth, then scored three more in the fifth.
They used another home run in the seventh to go up by seven runs.
Wells and Vargason led off the bottom half of the inning by reaching on singles. After two outs Brabant singled in Leila Cobb - Wells’ courtesy runner - and Vargason to make it 9-4.
Towanda (11-9) will wait to see who they play in the first round of districts next week.
