WILLIAMSPORT — Last year Canton’s Kendall Kitchen just missed out on a state berth in the pole vault. She wasn’t letting that happen this year, rain or no rain, as she hit 10-feet, 6-inches to take third at the District IV Track and Field Championships Saturday.

“It feels great, it’s been a goal of mine all year,” said Kitchen. “It just feels great to finally do it.”

The pole vault was pushed back all the way to 11 a.m. due to the rain but that didn’t seem to affect Kitchen, was clean on her first three tries, including 10-feet, 6-inches.

“It was worrying me at first, but I knew I just had to do what I had to do,” Kitchen said. “I wasn’t going to change it.”

She felt more confident the second time they warmed up.

Kitchen had hit 10-feet, 6-inches earlier in the year, but doing it at districts is something else.

“I knew I could already do it, so it just feels amazing to do it when it matters,” said Kitchen.

She’ll be shooting to get 11-feet at states next weekend.

“I just need to focus on jumping up more, swinging harder, and just pulling more,” said Kitchen.

Daveian Crowley just missed states in three events on Saturday, taking third in the 100 at 12.78, .08 away from state time.

She was fifth in the 400 in 1:00.91 running in lane eighth, then took seventh in the 200 in 26.65.

Kitchen was 16th in the 200 in 27.76, while Alexis McRoberts took 13th in the shot put at 31-feet 1/4-inches.

The 4x100 relay was 14th in 54.25, while the 4x400 relay was 19th in 4:34.58.

For the boys Lawrence Halbfoerster took seventh in the 3200 in 9:58.50, and 14th in the 1600 in 4:44.68.

The PIAA Championships are at Shippensburg University next weekend.
