Northern Tier Sports Report
MCALISTERVILLE — A young Wyalusing volleyball squad took a big step on Tuesday as they rolled past East Juniata, 9-2, during District IV, Class AA softball playoff action.

“A nice win in the district opener,” said Wyalusing coach Brett Jayne. “Danielle Wilson and Addisyn Bly both had nice home runs. The girls played a nice game, put the ball in play well, and run the bases well. They had good defensive play.”

The Rams jumped out early with two runs in the first and kept scoring, getting three in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the seventh. East Juniata scored their two in the bottom of the seventh.

“It felt really good to get a win after the way we started the season,” said Jayne. “The girls have really pulled together and finished the season strong.”

Bly (2-for-3) scored twice as Addison Fluck (2-for-3) had 3-RBI with a double. Kylie Pickett (2-for-3) had a double with two runs scored, and an RBI, while Wilson (1-for-3) had the solo shot.

Emily Johns (1-for-2) scored a run with Allie Liddick (1-for-4) also getting a hit. Raelea Harvey, Kirra Millard, and Josie Ferris all scored as Rachel Wilson and Kyla Carpenter both drove in a run.

Pickett got the start, and the win, going two innings to strikeout two with two walks, one hit, and no runs. Fluck went the rest of the way, striking out eight with seven walks, four hits, and two runs.

In the first Bly led off with a walk, then stole second. She later scored on Pickett’s double. Harvey came in to run and scored on Fluck’s hit for the 2-0 lead.

Danielle Wilson led off the second with a first pitch solo home run to make it 3-0. Ferris then drew a walk while Johns’ single put runners on the corners.

Johns would steal second, followed by Ferris scoring on a Rachel Wilson sacrifice fly. Johns would take home on a passed ball for the 5-0 lead.

In the fourth Bly hit a 2-out homer to make it 6-0 Rams.

Pickett would lead off the sixth with a walk, then stole second. She would score on a Fluck’s double to put the Rams up 7-0.

Pickett and Liddick would lead off the seventh with back to back hits. Pickett later scored on a Fluck fielder’s choice, while Kirra Millard, running for Liddick, reached home on a Carpenter ground out for the 9-0 lead.

Wyalusing will now travel to top seed South Williamsport on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start. They lost to the Mounties very early in the season.

“We’re hoping to prepare and have a better game against South on Friday than in our first meeting,” Jayne said.
