NTL TRACK & FIELD: CANTON'S KITCHEN HAS STRONG SHOWING AT STATES (2024-05-26)

Northern Tier Sports Report
SHIPPENSBURG — Canton’s Kendall Kitchen tied her personal best when she took 13th in the pole vault at the PIAA Track and Field Championships Saturday.

Kitchen finished at 10-feet, 6-inches, opening the day by clearing 10-feet on her second attempt. She needed just one attempt at 10-feet, 6-inches to get over, before falling three straight times at 11-feet.

The 11-foot mark was the cut-off for the podium.

“I Thought it was a good first trip down to states,” said Canton coach Casey Aylesworth. “We expected near perfect at 11 feet would start being the medal rounds. She had great attempts at 11, and to tie her PR at states is a good motivation for her senior year. You never know how your kids are going to react down there, coaches aren’t allowed on the infield, so we were communicating with her across the track while being in the stands. She handled everything very well, and jumped well in front of a large crowd.”
