NTL BASEBALL: WYALUSING SET TO HOST WEST BRANCH IN FIRST ROUND OF STATES (2024-06-02)

Wyalusing is back in the state playoffs hosting West Branch, the District VI runner-up, in the PIAA, Class AA field.

The Warriors come in 19-5 on the season, having lost the district title game, 13-3, to defending state champions, Bald Eagle.


They beat United (3-0) and Homer-Center (7-3) to reach the title game.


There aren’t any common opponents, and the closest comparison is a road trip in six degrees of separation. West Branch defeated Bucktail, 13-2, back in April, while Bucktail had an 8-7 loss to Northwest. The Rams beat Northwest 14-1 at the end of April.


West Branch has two guys hitting over .400 that have at least 90-plate appearances - Isaac Tiracorda (.477) and Lukas Colton (.471). Tiracorda has 36 runs scored, 25-RBI, five doubles, two triples, and two home runs, Colton has 26 runs scored, 32-RBI, four doubles, four triples, and one home run.


Brody Rothrock (.301) adds 18 runs scored, with five doubles and 19-RBI, while Luke Liptak (.300) has 26-RBI with eight doubles. Zach McGonigal (.286) had 14-RBI with 18 runs scored, while Coby Kephart (.262) has scored 24 runs with 14-RBI, and four doubles.


On the mound Liptak (11-1) has pitched the most innings, 77 2/3. He has a 1.98 ERA with 98 strikeouts against 15 walks.


Colton (5-4) has the next most innings at 44 1/3. He has 55 strikeouts with a 1.74 ERA. Nobody else on the team has more than 12 innings on the mound.


Trehnon Hugo leads Wyalusing at the plate with a .479 average. He has seven doubles, three triples, one home run, 20-RBI, and 25 runs scored.


Nick Vanderpool (.373) adds 19-RBI with 26 runs scored with Kenny Mapes (.338) rocking nine doubles and two home runs to with a team leading 28-RBI.


Casey God (.309) has four doubles, 13-RBI with 15 runs scored, Isaac Shaffer (.293) has 19 runs scored with 13-RBI, and CJ Carr (.287) has six doubles, a team high 32 runs scored, and 15-RBI.


Hunter House (8-1) leads the way on the mound, with 61 2/3-innings of action. He has 79 strikeouts against 29 walks with a 2.04 ERA.


Carr (2-3) has tossed 26 2/3-innings with a 5.25 ERA while Parker Petlock (2-1) has thrown 25 1/3-innings with a 3.87 ERA.


Vanderpool (1-0) and Hugo (2-0) have also thrown this year. Vanderpool has a 2.71 ERA and Hugo has a 3.29 ERA.


Game time is 4:30 p.m. at Wyalusing on Monday.
