TOWANDA GRAD GREENLAND, ATHENS' HILEY HELP LIGHTNING TO 2ND PLACE FINISH AT TOURNAMENT (2024-06-03)

Northern Tier Sports Report
The Lackawanna Lightning took second at the Spring Pride Sports Swing this past weekend. 

Towanda grad Shay Greenland pitched 14 innings with 22 strikeouts, two walks, and eight hits, while at the plate she had six hits - two of them doubles.


Greenland pitched games one and three on Saturday, and came on in relief in another game before starting the title game.


Athens’ Maddie Hiley pitched 11 innings with 10 strikeouts, four walks, and nine hits. At the plate she had two singles.


Hiley pitched game two on Saturday, and started the second game on Sunday. She came on in relief of Greenland in the title game.


The Lightning tied the Brawlers 3-3 in the opening game, then won 7-2 over the Wildfire. They followed that up with an 11-1 over the Lady Dukes-Gonzalez, then beat the Pineland Pirettes 8-0.


They got the best of the Brawlers in the semifinals with a 3-1 win, but then lost to Lady Dukes-Gonzalez in the finals, 11-10.


The game was tied 7-7 when time ran out so they went to extra innings rule. The Dukes would score for runs to go up 11-7. The Lightning fought back with three runs in the bottom half but came up short.
