THE SPORTS REPORTS: WAVERLY'S JOHNSON, OWEGO'S PALLADINO NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2024-06-05)

Waverly senior Ralph Johnson, and Owego sophomore Stella Palladino each won two Section IV titles at the Section IV, Division 2 State Qualifier. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week,” for the week ending June 1.

WAVERLY’S JOHNSON NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Johnson won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, clocking in at school-record times in both events.

Johnson won the 200 in a time of 21.52 seconds, which is the fastest time in the New York State this season.

He also won the 100 in a time of 10.65 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in the state this season.

Johnson also ran the anchor on Waverly’s 400-meter relay, which finished second (first in Division 2) in a time of 42.52 seconds — just 0.02 behind Horseheads’ winning foursome.

Elmira’s Brady Magliocca (golf), and Newark Valley’s Dan Truesdail (track & field).

OWEGO’S PALLADINO NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Paladino won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in personal-best times to punch her ticket to States.

She clocked in at 12.75 seconds in the 100, and 25.94 seconds in the 200.

Palladino also ran the anchor leg on Owego’s 1,600-meter relay team that ran a season-best time.

Honorable Mentions: Tioga’s Vida Rossi (track & field), Corning’s Kendall Curreri (softball), Horseheads’ Alexus Borek (track & field), and Northeast Bradford’s Makenna Callear (softball).
