NTL TRACK & FIELD: A TALE OF TWO TEAMS FOR CANTON (2024-06-08)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportIt was a tale of two teams for Canton track and field, as the girls’ team remained competitive while the boys’ had a rebuilding season.
“The girls team was a good mixture of freshman who came in and helped us out immediately along with having a couple girls who can compete well at major invitationals,” said coach Casey Aylesworth. “We are excited to have majority of the girls back, and continue building on prior success. Kendall Kitchen will have the experience of going down to states and being close to a medal, which will make her and the rest of the girls work harder. I know a few of them are already looking at going to some camps this summer.”
Kitchen finished in the top 13 at states in the pole vault, hitting a personal best of 10-feet, 6-inches.
They also return Daveian Crowley, who was a 3-time medalist at districts, just missing states in the 100, and Alexis McRoberts, who medaled at districts in the discus and owns the school record in the event.
Things were a little different for the boys.
“Coming into the season, we knew we were going to be young, not many seniors, and not many who had much success at NTL/district level,” Aylesworth said. “Our guys team matured well throughout the season, and kept improving week to week. Lawrence Halbfoerster had a very nice season as a sophomore, and will look to continue his success next couple years in the distance events. To break 10 in the two mile, and win a District IV medal says a lot in our loaded district.”
Halbfoerster was seventh in the 3200 at districts, and also ran a strong mile during the season, while Quincy Wesneski was a district qualifier in the javelin.
With all of their district competitors returning next season expect to see the Warriors do even better in 2025.
