NTL TRACK & FIELD: DESPITE YOUTH WYALUSING CONTINUES EXCELLENCE ON THE TRACK (2024-06-09)

Despite being on the younger side Wyalusing track and field continued to show out during the 2024 season.

“We had a really young team and I am very pleased with how they progressed throughout the season,” said coach James Schools. “The future of Wyalusing Track and Field looks bright. While our medal count was down from Districts this year, I feel that our athletes made some legitimate steps forward with their performances.”

Dylan Johns won the District IV title in the high jump, while Olivia Haley qualified for states in the 400 for the third straight season.

“Dylan Johns won every HJ competition he was in this season up until states,” Schools said. “Dylan learned a valuable lesson about being clean in the early jumps in High Jump. 6-2 was a medal at states, but he did not earn a medal based on misses. We are really excited that he cleared 6-2 at states, we just need to clean up his early jumps. Olivia ran a career best of 58.71 in the 400m at Lasagna Invitational. While that is not the school record, Olivia ran 9 sub 60 seconds 400m in her career, five of them this season!  That is a school "record". Along with Dylan and Olivia winning NTL titles in their respective events, Jonathan Earle and Mia Wilcox each won the boys and girls pole vault respectively at NTLs.”

Wilcox earned a district medal in the pole vault, while their 4x100 relay team also snuck onto the podium. For the boys, Earle and Trennan Tewksbury both just missed the district podium.

The girls return seven district qualifiers as the boys return six with two teams that finished in the top five of the NTL Invitational.

They even had good weather for the Lasagna Invitational this season.

“The Lasagna Invitational was another massive success,” Schools said. “We claim we are the best Invitational in NEPA and based on the Invitationals that we go to, that is very true.”
