The newcomers led the way for Towanda track and field this season, as first year varsity athletes Varrius Farrell and Izzy Larson were their two state qualifiers.

In the shot put Farrell had a 5-foot PR to take second at districts, then missed the state podium on second tie-breaker while in the 1600 Larson hit state time in taking fifth.

“I thought we had a good season on both sides both teams are very young and are only getting better every day,” said coach Mark Vail. “We ended on a high note with miss Larson doing well in the 1600 at states and young Mr. Farrell doing well in the shot put. A good overall season for both the teams.”

On the girls’ side district medalists Marin Maynard and Bryn Woodruff return with all girls’ qualifiers returning. The 4x800 relay just missed states by six seconds, and should get another chance next year.

For the boys Michael Ferrulli earned a district medal in the long jump, and Kole Heyer in the high jump. All boys’ district qualifiers return.
