AREA GIRLS' KEY PA WIN OVER NY AT THE DUALS ON DESMOND MATCH (2024-06-09)

SAYRE — The Pa girls’ squad used some hammers at the end of their line-up to pull away from NY, 48-36, in the inaugural Duals on Desmond wrestling exhibition Saturday.

NEB’s Anaiah Kolesar and Towanda’s JC Allis both earned wins, while Wyalusing’s Alexa Jayne came up short.

Pa won 10 of the 17 matches, as Kolesar kicked things off with a 9-3 decision over Owego’s RaeAnn Craft.

NY won the next three matches to take a 15-3 when Pa went on a 4-bout winning streak, started with a 1-0 decision from Williamsport’s Danica Bacorn.

Athens’ Emma Renninger, and Hannah Rathbun, and Sayre’s Layla Bennett followed with falls to put Pa back on top 24-15.

Three straight falls from NY saw them take a 33-24 lead. Athens’ Abbey Wagner earned a decision then teammate Leah Nason tied tings up at 33-33 with a fall.

Vestal’s Kiera DeVantier scored a decision to make it 36-33 NY, but then Pennsylvania brought out the big guns.

Allis scored a fall in 2:58 over SVE’s Tayah Beach to put Pa up 39-36. Williamsport’s Lillian Rumsey followed with a 6-4 decision, then 2-time state champion Brenda Banks scored a fall over Waverly’s Mackenzie LaForest in 4:57 to shut the door.
