NY TOPS PA IN BOYS EVENT AT THE DUALS ON DESMOND (2024-06-09)

Northern Tier Sports Report
SAYRE — New York proved too much for Pa in the boys’ match, winning 43-31, during the inaugural Duals on Desmond wrestling exhibition Saturday.

NY won seven of the first 10 matches and Pa couldn’t quite overcome that deficit.

Towanda’s Rylee Sluyter, NEB’s Mason Alexander, and Sullivan County’s Andrew Kapec and Kruz McCusker all notched wins, with Colton Wade doing double-duty, wrestling twice and going 1-1.

Towanda’s Jazick Brown and Riley Vanderpool, and Wyalusing’s Cole Patrick all had losses.

NY opened the match with back to back wins as Tioga’s Jayden Duncanson edged out Wade 5-1 on a late lateral drop, and Deposit-Hancock’s Landyn Shaffer decisioned Patrick 9-2 to put them up 6-0.

McCusker got a 3-2 decision to cut it to 6-3, but a fall from SVE’s Shane Neal over Brown pushed NY’s lead to 12-3.

Sluyter’s 4-2 win over Elmira’s Max Collins made it 12-6, but a win from Corning’s Logan Burce kept NY at arm’s length.

Athens’ Connor Davidson cut the deficit to 15-10 with a major, but three straight pins out of NY pushed the lead to 33-10.

Pa rallied as they got a 3-0 decision out of Williamson’s Luke Sottolano, then Alexander and Kapec got back to back falls to cut the deficit to 33-25.

Waverly’s Drayton DeKay scored a momentum breaking fall to make it 39-25, but Wade got some redemption with a pin for a 39-31 score.

In the highlight match Tioga’s Caden Bellis won 12-3 over Vanderpool for the 43-31 final.
