NTL TRACK & FIELD: TROY'S SENS HEADLINES TOP BOYS TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES IN BRADFORD COUNTY (2024-06-12)

BY CHRIS MANNING
Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a season full of history and surprises in track and field as Bradford County teams enjoyed a little bit of both in 2024.

One thing that wasn’t a surprise was Troy’s Avery Sens dominating in the shot put. From the beginning of the season through to districts Sens was the favorite and never relinquished that spot. He won an NTL title, a District IV title, and finished seventh at states in the throw - the only Bradford County boy to reach the state podium - with his personal best of 52-feet setting a new school record. All that makes Sens the Bradford County Boys’ Track and Field All-stars Overall Athlete of the Year.

Sayre’s Marco Quiros is the Track Athlete of the Year as he dominated the sprints - 100, 200, and 400 - in the NTL. He was a district champion in the 400, a state qualifier in the 200, and made the district finals in the 100.

There are Co-Field Athletes of the Year in Wyalusing’s Dylan Johns and Troy’s Ben Warburton. Both were districts champions - Johns in the high jump and Warburton in the long jump - with both getting there in different ways. Johns, who had a high of 6-feet, 4-inches, won every high jump competition he was in until states, while Warburton gradually improved throughout the season until he landed a personal best of 22-feet, 11 1/4-inches at districts.

The Newcomer of the Year is Towanda’s Varrius Farrell. He started off the season strong in the discus, but it was the shot put where he made his mark, hitting 49-feet, a 5-foot personal best, at districts to take second and make states. There he hit another PR of 51-feet, 2 3/4-inches to finish ninth on a tie-breaker, just missing the podium.
