YOUTH: RTL MAJORS BASEBALL ROLLS PAST ATHENS TO STAY ALIVE (2024-06-30)

ATHENS — The RTL Majors baseball All-star team jumped out early in their 7-3 win over Athens during District 15 consolation bracket play Sunday.

RTL led 3-0 after the first, and 6-0 in the middle of the third. Athens pushed one across in the bottom half fo the inning, but RTL got that one back in the top of the fourth.

Athens added two more runs in the fifth, but that’s as close as they got.

Noah Shaffer (2-for-2) scored twice with an RBI as Nolan Putnam (1-for-3) had three runs scored. Seth King (1-for-2) drove in two runs with Eli Tinna (1-for-4), and Aiden Nystrand (1-for-3) both scoring. Tinna, Sawyer Yoder, and Michael Trowbridge each had an RBI.

Nystrand started, and went 2 2/3-innings with five strikeouts. Putnam tossed the next 1 1/3-innings with two strikeouts, while Tinna pitched two-thirds of an inning with two strikeouts.

Shaffer finished off the final 1 1/3-innings with three strikeouts.

RTL will travel to Tunkhannock in a rematch on Monday with a 6 p.m. start. A win and they advance to the consolation bracket final on Wednesday, a loss and they’re out of the tournament.
