YOUTH: TOWANDA MINORS SOFTBALL FALLS AGAINST ATHENS (2024-06-30)

Northern Tier Sports Report
ATHENS — When Towanda and Athens first met in Minors’ softball all-star action it was a pitcher’s duel. This second one was a shootout, with Athens prevailing 14-7 to take the winner’s bracket Sunday.

Athens jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, with both teams scoring two runs in the second. Athens out scored Towanda 3-1 in the third, then notched four more runs in the fourth to take a 12-3 lead.

Towanda rallied, scoring one in the fifth, and three more in the bottom of the sixth. Athens, though, kept scoring, with one in each of the sixth and seventh innings for the 7-run win.

Towanda didn’t have a hit but drew 12 walks on the day, as Natalie Dulaney scored twice. Lily Strope, Kailyn Skwarb, Sloane Stevens, and Brielle Pratt each scored a run.

Camden Buford started, and went three innings with six strikeouts. Strope came on for the final three innings with five strikeouts.

Towanda will host Southern Tioga on Monday with a 5:30 p.m. start. A win and they get another shot at Athens on July 7 at Wysox, a loss and they’re done for the season.
