YOUTH: TOWANDA MINORS SOFTBALL RIDES EARLY OFFENSE IN WIN OVER SOUTHERN TIOGA (2024-07-01)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYSOX — Rosalie Smith and Kinley Woodruff put on a hitting display as Towanda All-star Minors softball defeated Southern Tioga, 12-5, in the District 15 consolation bracket final Monday.
The duo went 5-for-5 with two home runs, a triple, five runs scored, and 6-RBI. Smith (3-for-3) had a home run, three runs scored, and 3-RBI, as Woodruff (2-for-2) had a home run, a triple, two runs scored, and 3-RBI.
Towanda jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first and led 8-0 after three. They added two more runs in the top of the fourth as they looked to end the game early, but Southern rallied, scoring two in the bottom half to extend the game.
Towanda scored another in the top of the fifth, but Southern pushed three across in the bottom half of the inning, though Towanda was able to get out of a bases loaded jam.
Towanda added one more insurance run in the top of the sixth for the 7-run win.
Camdyn Buford (1-for-2) scored twice with an RBI, while striking out 16 from the circle. Kammie Bostwick scored twice as Kailyn Skwarb (1-for-3), Sloane Stevens, and Natalie Dulaney all crossed home.
Skylar Chilson (1-for-3) also had a hit.
Towanda will be off until Sunday, July 7 when they host Athens with the District 15 title on the line. Towanda needs to beat Athens twice to get the title, while Athens just needs one win in the next two games to claim it.
