YOUTH: RTL MINORS BASEBALL TOPS TUNKHANNOCK (2024-07-02)

WYALUSING — RTL pounded out nine hits - six of them of the extra base variety - as they defeated Tunkhannock, 7-3, during District 15 Minors All-star baseball bracket play on Tuesday.

The win sets up another date with Athens for RTL on Saturday, July 6 at 3 p.m. at Sayre. RTL needs to win to force a winner-take-all game the following Monday, while Athens just needs to win one of the next two games to earn the district title.

RTL jumped out with two runs in the first inning, while Tunkhannock got one back in the second. A 5-run third by RTL saw they take a 6-run lead.

Tunkhannock pushed one across in the fourth, then another run the sixth as they loaded the bases. With the tying run at home plate RTL’s Brantley Cron got a strikeout on the only batter he faced to secure the win.

Ethan Shaffer (2-for-3) had two doubles, 4-RBI, and a run scored, as Weston Maines (2-for-2) had a triple, a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Wesley Carr (2-for-3) had a triple, with two runs scored, as Elliott Campbell (1-for-1) had an RBI double in the game.

Emerson Clouse scored twice as Forrest Fisk (1-for-2) scored, and drove in a run. Cayden Benjamin (1-for-2) added a hit.

Clouse started, and went three innings with five strikeouts. Carr came in to pitch for a third of an inning, then gave way to Shaffer. He went 2 1/3-innings with seven strikeouts.
