LADY LIGHTNING WHITE TAKE PENNSYLVANIA STATE TITLE (2024-07-07)
Northern Tier Sports ReportQUAKERTOWN — The Lady Lightning White 18U team continued their softball summer of success as they won the USSSA Pennsylvania 18U State Championship on Sunday.
The team went 6-0-1 over the weekend, including a 4-0 day during bracket play on Sunday as they out scored their opponents 27-8.
The won their first and last game on Saturday with a tie sandwiched in between the two.
They opened with a 6-3 win over North Penn Eclipse 18U as Olivia Champluvier struck out in five innings of action, allowing three hits, three runs, three walks, and two earned runs.
Tae-Lynn Brabant (1-for-1) had a double with a run scored, and an RBI, as Marissa Horn (1-for-2) also scored and drove in a run.
Addy Bly, Champluvier, and Aliza Post all scored as Kali Ayres (1-for-2), Caedence Wells (1-for-2), and Brooklyn Evans (1-for-1) each had a hit. Post also drove in a run.
They tied the Lady Dukes SCPA 18U 3-3 as Horn went the distance, striking out five with eight walks, one hit, and three runs, one of which was earned.
Bly (1-for-2) had a double with a run scored as Post (1-for-2) drove in a run. Amber James and Brea Overpeck both scored, with Kali Ayres getting an RBI. Brabant (1-for-1) also had a hit.
In their final Saturday game they defeated the Explosion 18U Gold 6-3.
Post (2-for-2) had a double with 2-RBI and a run scored, as Ayres (2-for-2) drove in a run and scored herself. James (1-for-2) scored twice, with Wells (1-for-1) hitting a double with an RBI.
Horn (1-for-1) scored and drove in a run, while Bly also crossed home, with Overpeck (1-for-2) getting a hit.
Brabant got the win in three innings of action, striking out three with one walk, eight hits, and three earned runs.
They opened up bracket play Sunday with a 9-0 win over the North Penn Eclipse 18U. Ayres got the shutout, allowing just one hit and five walks with eight strikeouts.
Evans (2-for-2) had a double with two runs scored, and an RBI, as Champluvier (1-for-2) had a triple with 2-RBI, and a run scored.
Ellie Ambrosecchia went 1-for-2 with a run scored, and an RBI as Wells (1-for-2) and Overpeck (1-for-2) each had a double, with an RBI. Overpeck also scored.
James (1-for-2) and Ayres (1-for-2) each had an RBI as Bly and Post both crossed home twice.
In the quarters they eked out a 6-4 win over the Xpress Elite Black 18U, rallying from a 4-2 deficit to score four runs in the sixth to get the win.
Overpeck (1-for-3) had a home run with 4-RBI and a run scored, as Bly (1-for-3) had a double with two runs scored. Ayres (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored, while James, Ayres (1-for-3), and Post also scored.
Champluvier (1-for-2), Evans (1-for-2), and Horn (1-for-2) each had hits. Champluvier started, going one-third of an inning with two hits, two walks, and two earned runs. Brabant went the next 5 2/3-innings with four strikeouts, two walks, seven hits, and two earned runs.
In the semifinals they defeated Explosion 18U Gold 8-4.
Wells (1-for-1) had a home run with 4-RBI and a run scored as James (1-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI.
Overpeck scored twice with Evans (1-for-2) and Post (1-for-2) both crossing home. Evans added an RBI as Horn (1-for-1) had a hit.
Horn got the win, going four innings with eight strikeouts, four walks, three hits, and four earned runs.
In the finals they blanked the Phillies UYA 4-0 as Horn was one error away from a perfect game. In six innings she struck out six with no walks or hits.
Bly (1-for-3) and Ayres (1-for-3) each had a double with an RBI, as James (1-for-3) scored and drove in a run.
Post (1-for-2) and Ambrosecchia both scored, as Wells (1-for-2) had a hit.
The Lady Lightning White will be in Chambersburg the next two weekends before heading to Ocean City.
