TOWANDA'S ALLIS LOOKS TO BE NEXT STAR ON THE MATS (2024-07-12)

Girls’ wrestling is the hottest sport in high school right now, and Towanda’s JC Allis is set to be its hottest new star.

The incoming freshman won a Keystone State Championship this past year and competed at the USA Wrestling Women’s National Duals with Pennsylvania Blue in Pool A. Blue went 9-0 on the day to win the title, as Allis went 5-3 with one pin and two tech falls.

“I didn’t think I would have gotten this far, but I’m proud of myself that I have,” Allis said.

She’s also won titles at the PAUSAW Freestyle and Greco Warrior Run and the Southern Tier Memorial, setting her up for plenty of success this winter for the Lady Knights.

“Having wrestled most of my youth I feel like it helps me to know what to expect,” Allis said. “I do expect to see most of my toughest competition again this year.”

She got into wrestling by watching her older brother, Cameron Allis, who joined the varsity ranks this past year. JC also has a younger brother who wrestles, and she works out with both of them.

“I think my wrestling style is my strongest attribute,” said Allis. “I feel like have a different style of wrestling than most.”

One thing she’s going to work on is her mindset to help her pull out close matches.

“I feel like I’ve lost close matches this year because of not having my mind right,” she said.

Allis usually has to go far away to wrestle but last month competed in Sayre at the inaugural Duals on Desmond. She helped lead the PA team to a win over New York with a second period fall in her match.

“I felt like it was a good experience to be able to wrestle in front of my local support system,” said Allis. “I would wrestle in another tournament like this if I had the opportunity again.”

There will be plenty of opportunities for local fans to watch her as Towanda will start their girls’ program this winter, following in the footsteps of Athens, NEB, and Wellsboro

“When I saw the girls wrestling at the Giant Center last year I felt like I should have been there,” remarked Allis. “I can’t wait to be there this year.”

The freshman plans on wrestling at 124 pounds, and has already set the bar high.

“Individually, I would like to be Towanda’s first state champion this year,” Allis said. “And as a team, I would like for the girls to have fun, and see our team succeed.”

The sky is the limit for Allis, and that’s what she likes most about wrestling.

“My favorite thing is having different opportunities, winning, and being a role model for younger athletes.”
