FROM WRESTLING MATS TO DIRT TRACK: TOWANDA'S GUNTHER FINDS A NEW PASSION IN RACING (2024-07-18)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Towanda native Jace Gunther is in his rookie year of dirt track racing in the Front Wheel Division at The Hill Speedway, and currently sits in seventh place with 250 driver points on the season.

Gunther competes in football, wrestling, and track and field, having wrestled since three, and played football since five. On the mats he has been to the MAWA Eastern National Championships, the PJW State Tournament three times, and the Keystone State Tournament. He’s been a varsity competitor on the mats since he was a freshman as he’ll be going into his senior year for all three sports.

This summer Gunther found a new passion in dirt track racing. This began with watching his cousin, Tyler Belcher, race. Belcher now is an IMCA driver who competes weekly at The Hill Speedway, and other tracks.

Though Gunther hasn’t seen the checkered flag yet, he continues to strive to get better in his new found passion for racing.

Despite suffering some heavy damage in a head on collision in week two Gunther worked with a couple of fellow racers to get the car back on the track the following week. He hopes to round out his season in the top five racers in his division.

The upcoming football season is right around the corner, making his pursuit of a top five finish tricky, but until Friday Night Lights come calling he’ll be on the dirt track.
